    Spread Betting in France

    Hi guys,

    I am currently enjoying a long weekend in Paris and I was having a little chit chat with my brother in law, and we brought this subject of forex trading, I said I do some Sread bettiing and asked if it was tax free just in the UK soil or everywhere else, I just said it should be as the =brokers absorb the tax through the spreads they charge... .
    I know that spread bets do not attract any capital gains in the UK (nor can you opffset any losses!) but, as he lives and works in France and a French tax payer, I am trying to find out if profits (should you ever make any!) are treated similarly in France? or are they taxed over here ?

    I would appreciate any advice from anyone who can help in this area.

    Many thanks in advance

    Hey;

    There no such advantages for " spread betting " in France.

    If your yearly share sales i.e. turnover ( on a world basis, valid only for EC shares ) are <Euro> 25,730,01, added value is taxable from the first centimes. 18% tax and 12.1% CSG.

    From 1.1.2010 onwards , there is no limit for CSG ( 12.1% taxation ).

    The limit for income tax remains. If it will be updated is not known.

    If this activity is considered like a Gambling activity by the UK, so it should be the same in France. Oops, I forgot that the French have to oppose us in everything!!!

    I would think it was tax free but you need to check with french tax authorities.

    As I know people in France and Germany in particular prefer to trade CFDs as financial spread betting has word 'betting' in it.

    Ermmm, does that mean French or Germans don't have casinos, don't play lottery....
